The UK West Midlands Fire and Civil Defence Authority is responsible for providing an emergency response service, emergency planning function and afire safety enforcement and advice service to the 3 million people of the West Midlands. The region includes the two major cities of Birmingham and Coventry, and is one of the UK's most densely populated and industrialised areas. The Authority has an annual operating budget of £90 m. the service is provided by 2500 personnel from the 43 sites. The Authority's vision statement 'To make West Midlands a Safer Community' sets out the long-term goal. We aim to work in partnership with the community we serve to reduce the potential for emergency incidents, and to provide an effective emergency response. The ability to respond effectively, ensure personnel are trained and equipped to carry out their duties safely and to utilise the latest developments in technology are key corporate policies of the organisation.

Role in project

WMFCDA supported by other emergency services will contribute to the project by defining incident scenarios & processes; current decision factors and practices; definition of a common language; review of user requirements and the evaluation of prototypes in real-life situations
